Director of Talent, Brillante Academy
Katie Hernandez Akers serves as the Director of Talent for Brillante Academy. Her passion for education was sparked by her grandmother, a kindergarten teacher in Cuba, and grew through her own experience as a Teach For America corps member and special education teacher.
She later worked at Goldman Sachs, where she developed data and analytical skills before returning to education. During her 12 years with Teach For America, Katie led major initiatives including large-scale research on teacher effectiveness, nationwide staff hiring, and the development of Elevate, an org-wide performance management program.
Katie is deeply committed to building workplace cultures where team members can thrive and use their talents in service of transformational outcomes. She brings this passion to Brillante’s mission each day.
Katie holds bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Marketing and a master’s degree in Special Education from Arizona State University. She lives in Houston with her husband and son.
